Watercolours by Lee Fidler
Lee Fidler is an artist who was born and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Her interest in art began
in her youth and was self taught through trial and error during the early years of learning. From
1978 until 2015 she worked exclusively in watercolours. Recently, Lee has returned to her
artistic roots and once again enjoys creating fine graphite drawings. In 2015 she began to include
coloured pencil and pastels as new and exciting mediums that provide more innovative
techniques when worked in combination.
Her signature style is depicted by the soft and peaceful flowers created in fine detail. Often
included in her paintings are the songbirds that visit her gardens and backyard feeders. Lee's pet
portraits and wildlife paintings are also among the subjects she enjoys painting. During her
career, she has exhibited in several group and one man shows.
Lee has been featured in several publications for her work in both watercolour and coloured
pencil. In 2010 her watercolour painting "Everything's Coming Up Roses" was featured in
"Watercolor without Boundaries" by American artist/authour and instructor Karlyn Holman. In
2016, a wolf she completed in coloured pencil was publshed in "Hidden Treasures 3" a
compilation of coloured pencil artwork from an entry of over 800 worldwide. As well, an article
and several images by Lee was published in the November 2016 issue of Ann Kullberg's Color
magazine. Her barn owl, "A Better Mousetrap", along with a short article was selected for
"Colored Pencil Treasures 6" following an entry of over 900 artists from around the globe. The
September 2021 issue of the Color magazine featured Lee's Stellar's Jay, "A Stellar Feller", as part
of the22nd Annual Color Magazine Member Show and was chosen for one of Ann's Highlights by
Ann Kullberg. And, Lee was selected as a finalist for her watercolour painting "Sleepyhead"
in Splash 23 The Finest in Watercolor special edition of American Artist which was published
in 2022. The most recent painting of Lee's that has been published is in "CP Treasures 9" featuring
"Dinner Date", her colour pencil painting of one of her favourite birds, red breasted
nuthatches on a sunflower.
Through her years of artistic development that includes studying with numerous prominent,
international artists, Lee has brought the knowledge, techniques, skill and passion not only to her
own work, but also to inspire the students she has taught over the past several years. During her
career as an artist, Lee has developed a style that appeals to those who seek the calm and
serenity her paintings have to offer.
